This super cool Austin modern home is so hot that it was recently featured as one of the contestants for TLC's hit real estate show Four Houses. The Pedernales River here is spring fed with LIVE year-round water, even throughout the recent drought. However, with few good put-in, take-out spots nearby, few people ever use the river and sporadic kayakers are about the only regular sightings of humanity.

Walking up to the front of the house from the custom constructed arbor, you find your self among a bocce court and one of several outdoor living and dining spaces, highlighted by a water feature. Living amongst the hill country setting is paramount.

 

This cozy spot is perfect for cuddling up with headphones to listen to some new music or favorite old book, or just with someone you love, this is a perfect alcove for a rainy night.

Also on the main floor, is an office space with a built-in floating pecan desk, and steel storage boxes from Sallie Trout Studio.

 

The opulent owner's retreat is a true sanctuary. The wall of windows to the expansive view doesn't need additional decoration, but warm wood floors, raised sitting area (storage underneath), & wood fireplace, keep it interesting after the sun goes down.

 

The owner's spa is completely customized from the double mahogany vanity with stainless trough sink and hand painted screen doors for cabinets and closets.

 

Yep, that's our designer, hanging from a chain hoist, from which she can access the oldest, dustiest tomes in her collection (although most can be reached without this aid from the stairs).

 

Beyond the living area, the dining space and kitchen space flow in one seamless transition. The chandelier and custom art case built into the island bar, you literally live amongst art here.

 

The Texas pecan counters, custom cabinets, custom fabricated steel shelving, and stainless Wolf range, the kitchen is set up for the most discriminating chef. The kitchen island, topped in granite, also offers a breakfast bar, and rounds out the suite of stainless appliances with a Miele dishwasher and an ice-maker.

 

Perhaps one of the most poignant examples of the owner/designer's sense of whimsey is displayed in the tower library, shooting upwards through the middle of the windings staircase.

 

A trundle bed rolls out from the main bed for use in the other half of the room. The guest bedroom downstairs can be used as one room, or can be divided with a moveable wall using the custom "wheatboard" rolling cabinets.

 

The guest bath on the main level features custom aluminum tiles designed and crafted by the owner, and custom mirrors and towel bars also from her design studio. The guest bath is also handicapp accessible with a zero-entry shower with dual Grohe shower heads.

Upon entry through the massive solid mahogany front door, the loft-inspired, open interior is immediately apparent, with a sightline through the living, dining and kitchen, in one great-room perfect for entertaining.
